Project Information

I made some cutting boards this year for Christmas gifts. And they loved them everyone.

This was my first attempt at a cutting board of any sort so I tried to keep them simple. Each time I go to the lumber yard, I check out their discount bin and buy whatever maple they have discounted. The last visit I bought some walnut and cut some strips to make accents on several of the boards. The boards vary in thickness from about 5/8" to 1 1/4" in thickness.

My wife got her pic of the litter and chose the bread serving board and a small cutting board. They got a workout Christmas day as we had our family over for dinner. I designed the bread board after seeing a similar board at a steak house. So I broke out the french curves and made my own design and let her check it out and give the OK.

When it came time to hand out the gifts, we let the girls (4 grown girls with families) pick a number out of the hat and each one got whatever was in the package with their number on it. Although we said they could swap, no one wanted to swap. I really enjoyed doing this project.

The striped flounder (very rare) was sent to a long time friend, a flounder catching fool if their ever was one. I knew when the phone rang that she had received it. She was tickled to death and went on and on. She said it would never get cut on; it is going on the wall. :) It is really great to have good friends like her and her husband.

I used mineral oil for the finish.
Hope you approve.
Mike
