Project Information

I was contacted by a young Marine looking for some help with a shadow box as a memorial to his father for his mother. She had taken her husband's memorabilia to a hobby store near her in hopes they could create something for her husband. Unfortunately (or fortunately for me) they were unable to accommodate her wishes.

The Marine arranged for mom to bring all the memorabilia over to me along with the following drawing (no comments about Marines and crayons)

We discussed the species of wood and she decided on Jatoba (one of my favorite woods to work with). Throughout the construction process I knew I wanted to enhance the box with some splines for the miters. I decided on some dovetail keys made of maple. And then I remembered I had some inlay leftover from previous project and thought it would also add to it without being too much.

I think it came out just the way he wanted but better. Thanks for looking.

That is a great design to mirror the two services and your execution is super. Glad you had the opportunity to help the family too.
