Project Information

A client asked for a Mancala Board made of Black Walnut and Curly Soft Maple. He wanted something playable but a little out of the ordinary, no glass for playing pieces. I decided to use for playing pieces pebbles from gold mine tailings that were dredged out of a creek in the 1800's. The board folds with barrel hinges and is held shut with magnets. The rounded ends are unique to this board design and the client is very happy.

I remember it as a game during my childhood days here in the Philippines. We call in "sunka".

Very nice. I like seeing the use of earth magnets.

Made this for the neighbor out of a pine log. Not really portable tho!!

He put it on his back porch for his kids.
