Project Information

A new line of slides I`ve added to my list of unique custom works. Knife style slides….held similar like a straight razor instead of being on ones finger. I use Pyrex glass rods that are epoxied in a channel. Some new woods used for these are Texas Ebony and Huisache, also Figured Ziracote. I`m doing one now with a hawks head on carved from Eucalyptus , I will add a picture of it when it`s finish. With these type of slides I get to show off my carving skills more and I think they really have a unique look to them.

Very nice work! How about a pic of one in your hand to show just how it looks/works? What size glass rod did you use?

I added a pic of me holding the prototype…I used a 7mm glass rod. I just ordered some blue cobalt glass rods for some up coming orders, the ornately carved ones I used clear Pyrex glass rods [ 7mm]. I also found that this style of slide works great for lap steel and as a noter for mountain dulcimer playing. A pretty unique slide!!

Beautiful work as always Randy. They remind me of a straight razor.

Yes ..they have a muti use really, they can be held in their standard way for playing guitar, or held like a butter knife and used for lap steel or lap playing a " cigar box guitar " and also held for use as a " noter " for playing the lap style mountain dulcimer. There the first one or two melody strings are held down to play the notes. The noter or stick is used instead of ones finger. Being these slides use a glass rod the work great on steel or acoustic strings.
