Hi Everyone :)
I've been away a long time now. I've been saving for the past five years to build a shop at my new…well…not so new now…house. Planning, saving, and now finally…building :) I'm not doing the building myself as I have a day job and not the help to do so. I will finish the interior myself, but the exterior I'm hiring out. This has been a bad year for weather. Started with getting the building permit in May…here we are in November/December before any work got done. All the rain we've had on the east coast this year has the contraction business all backed up. Anyway, the building is 24 feet deep and 40 feet wide with raised ceiling. Two 9×8 overhead doors and a single man door and double window on the front, and a double window on one end, single window on the other. I will eventually have a separate 200 amp entry and a utility sink for water. I hope to get the floor epoxied before I move in also. Eventually, I will insulate, finish the walls and add heat and air…oh and a beer fridge of course ;) I hoping by spring I'll be able to move in, but that depends on weather and…money :( Can't believe the cost of things. Mostly the materials…good God!!! Anyway, I'll try to keep my post up to date as things progress…thanks for listening :)

Update: Stalled!! Grrrrr…rain, rain, go away. It's been such a wet year…wettest on record. I am stuck at waiting for concrete and it won't stop raining or snowing or other nasty things :>) I want my shop!!! LOL Mother Nature is against me right now…oh well…hopefully soon the weather will break and I can get moving forward again.

Newest: Well, let's see. Concrete done last year, siding done, electrical done, plumbing done, insulation done, ceiling done…well needs paint but up. Next is paint on the ceiling, walls, and floors. OSB…$24 a sheet for 7/16 here right now…I will wait till the price drops…this is crazy. Floors will be granite infused tile that looks like oak…waiting for holiday sales to buy. Once those are done then it will be time to move in. Getting ever so closer and taking way too long.

It's nice to know that you get to do a load of clothes while sawing and cutting wood.

Great little shop. I'm a couple of hundrend miles north of you come up for a visit.

As I was viewing your pics, I thought it was amazing how clean you keep your shop! Then I saw the pic of the laundry, and that explained it all…

Don't feel bad about a small shop…everyone's got their own challenges, and some poor LJ's have to work out in their driveways!

Karson: OH MY GOD!!! I could put my whole house in your shop….both floors…LOL Maybe someday I'll come by and drool!!! And, yes…I'm often tending laudry while woodworking….lol Actually, usually tripping over that along with everything else [GRIN]

Damocles: LOL, yeah I just completed my semi-annual cleaning….pull everything out in the driveway and clean away. Figured it was a good time to take pics….won't stay this way for long.

Critter…I'd never let my wife put all that white rectangular looking appliances, (I'm not familiar with what they are for) in my workshop. You are a saint. Karson eluded to something to do with laundry? I'm baffled, but, oh well. Nice tools!

Jim, It is a good use of space. I can see how tripping over something could be a problem. In my small shop I to rely on wheels on tools, course lately I find them sitting around cause I don't have a stand for them. But working on that.

One other question, where are all the other LumberJocks's from Virginia? There has got to be some around here. Good luck on the selling of the house and finding a nice workshop and house.

Here in Virginia! 5 to 6 hours west in the mountains
Nice small shop layout. Good quality time sharing it with the wife or are you in charge of the laundry too?
My wife won't let me get near her new laundry appliances. (Who-wee!!)
God bless

Hi guys, thanks for the words of encouragement…fact is I'd like to say I love my shop, but that would be a big lie. I hate the darn thing, too small, trip hazards, and extention cords running every which way, but it's home…for now. House been on the market for a year and a half now with no takers, the market is terrible, but eventually I'll get out of here…I hope. I do love my tools though, lots of research on the internet and magazines before I buy anything has payed off well. And, I'm not sure where all the Virginia woodworkers are, I know there are a lot of woodworkers here though, met a bunch at last years Woodworks show in Richmond. Guess this year I need to wear a Lumberjocks T-Shirt at the show to advertise the site ;>)

Hi Jim,

I apologize for just now getting around to looking at your shop. To tell you the truth when I first saw it I wondered if my wife had been in there and "organized" you shop. :) She arranges mine like this all the time. It does make for an organized shop but if you want to get to a tool invariably you have to move two or three others out of the way. I feel your pain with respect to the water heater and washer/dryer. But you are making efficient use of your limited space. And you have some nice tools to play with as well.

Thanks for the shop tour. I really appreciate it.

LOL, The Grizzman is right!!! This is bad and I know it, but life is just keeping me out of my shop right now. Trying to do something about that GRizz, but the force isn't with me [grin]. Hopefully, I can get some time soon, I'm having wicked withdrawals.
