Project Information

My mother-in-law passed away recently and the family wanted me to make a cremation box for her ashes. Not having done one before I was a little hesitant. This is what I came up with and I think it turned out great. Made with walnut and maple with her initials done with marquetry in the top. She was a treasure to her family and made it to 95.

Thats some fantastic wood work on display for a "first Go" I must say, and not being too familiar with the concept how did you determine the design dimensions?

I am off to check out your other projects !!

John, I am sorry to hear of your family's loss. The box, as usual, is a wonderful design and the craftsmanship is beyond reproach. The marquetry initials are just wonderful along with the spline miters.. A great combinations of woods with excellent grain choice….

Wonderful work and a fine tribute John. Not a job anyone wants to face but rewarding at the same time. Lots of thoughts and good memories during the construction I'm sure. My mom made it to 94. It was like getting to spend a last week with her when I made her urn.
My condolences.

John, this is a beautiful box and you have put into it a lot of nice details and craftsmanship. I love the overall design and the contrasting wood colors which accents the details. It's a very nice eye catcher.

Having made a couple for my parents it makes you feel good knowing that this is the last project you'll do for the person and there is no greater honor. Good for her 95. I hope she was good right up to the end.

That is a beautiful job which she would be proud of. Unfortunately with mine I had limited time and it showed.

There must be something about funeral urns. They seem to garner the most attention and get into the Daily Top 3.

The family turned to the right guy! That is a gorgeous box John and as others have said, she would approve of it. The wood is beautiful and the splines are top notch. As always, your marquetry is second to none.

John, exceptional work. I lost my mom a year ago, so I know how difficult this time can be. You did an outstanding job on her box. I love everything about it. Well done, John, well done.

Absolutely beautiful John. As everyone has said, this is a gem and what a perfect place for their loved one's spirit to reside. Walnut and Maple make such a great project together. Very very gorgeous.
