Showcase cover image for Credenza

Project Information

Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I have been very busy making solid timber kitchens and bathrooms. While very profitable, they are boring to do. Now I am back to the work I love. Designing and making individual pieces.

This is a Credenza for an office set. This set includes a desk and mobile set of drawers. I will post these two soon.

The credenza is made from recycled Jarrah, Ipil and She-oak. The top is 1400mm x 450 mm. The handles are hand crafted from Ebony.

Wow, that is really lovely! Tell us about those door panels. Is that carved? Such a great effect. Very elegant.

Hi George. What a gorgeous piece. I love the deign with the curve and shaped legs along with the carved sides and door panels. That is going to make one great looking office set. I'm looking forward to seeing the other pieces.

Beautifully designed and executed! You should make sure that the clients who hire you for your "boring" bread and butter cabinetry know the full extent of your wood working skills! A business card with a photo of your fine furniture and cabinetry work may work for you.

Really, really nice.
How did you carve the front and the sides?
What kind of joinery attaches the sides to the case?
Thanks for posting this.

The design is fantistic. A perfect marriage of traditional and cutting edge. You do outstanding work.

Thanks for all the great comments. Makes a Sunday morning great.

The sides and the door are hand carved with chisels and than many hours of sanding to get it smooth.

The legs are attached using a loose dovetail tenon and two screws from the inside. I was going to use a standard loose tenon but the dovetail one makes it considerably stronger.
