Project Information
My first project post, and it's not pretty-but it is functional.
I needed a place that would provide ready access to my cordless drills, circular saw (love that thing for breaking down sheet goods in a hurry), batteries, etc. I didn't invent this concept-I found some similar designs on google, but I designed this one to fit my available space and needs.
It's made of 3/4" (or, more precisely, 18 mm) Baltic birch plywood. When it comes to plywood, I really like BB. It's flat, virtually void-free, and the edges actually look good enough that I don't feel compelled to trim them out for shop furniture.
I only took one pic of the assembly process, showing where I drilled the back part of the drill slots with a Forstner bit and then cut out the slots at the table saw.
I hit the front edge of the drill shelf with a 1/4" roundover bit on the router table and glued it into the dados. The corners of the cabinet are reinforced rabbet joints.
The circular saw sits on a little shelf that rests at 45 degrees. Gravity would hold it in place, but I recessed a small flush-mount magnet near the top of the saw shoe to keep it secure. My LED flashlight and reciprocating saw sit on the bottom shelf, near the battery charger. I don't use the recip saw much for fine woodworking
I made four drill slots, one more than I have tools at the moment. Dewalt is due to release its 20V 1/2" impact driver soon, and it will occupy the final slot.
The station is attached to the wall via a French cleat at the top, so I can move it to a new spot as shop reorganization necessitates.
I was a bit sloppy on the glue squeeze out… got in a rush and heck… it's shop storage.
Thanks for looking!
