Don't put anything on this other than glue IE no oil before glue ,when it is finally hardened up then oil it.The glue you have been using doesn't appear to be non waterproof glue IMHO thats whats at fault here not oil.

How strange, I use mineral oil all the time and other than it sliding off the counter it holds together fine.

It looks like you used the torch to dry it out.

I know you mentioned the problems you were having but I underestimated the extent of this disaster.

Now get right back on that horse…

Don't listen to any of these negative people! I am ashamed of their comments.

Besides my boss seems to like your design, and he has authorised me to purchase your item. My boss is currently in Nigeria and he would like to send you a rather large check for the purchase of said item. Please deduct your manufacturing costs, your shipping costs, your supply costs (mineral oil, sulphuric acid, blow torch, duct tape ect.), and please send him the rest of the left-over money in good faith. Please act now, so your cutting boarrd will soon be part of our Nigerian Collection. Please wire funds to Prince Scamafraudula.

Was the wood wet when you glued it together? What did you use to glue it up? And if you did not use mineral oil, what di you use?

This has GOT to be a joke. The number of ridiculous flaws we see here makes me quite suspicous about your "minearal oil" tale.

-giant chunk missing from the top right
-huge gaping glue joints
-bottom strip isn't even cut parallel or even close to parallel
-extensive burning towards bottom of the board
-4th glue joint down from the top appears to have a huge gap all the way across
-extensive glue around joints not removed before application of mineral oil

All that said, this piece made me feel great. I made a quick and dirty box out of 1/4" ply for collecting our recycling under our sink. I rushed it and didn't get some 45 degree reinforcing as tight as I'd like. Nobody will see it and structurally the box is sound and does it's job perfectly. That said, these imperfections still annoyed me. Somehow seeing this "thing" made me feel quit a bit better. I think I'll go try out my new water stones now with my new boost in confidence. :)
