Project Information
When my wife and I got married two years ago, we lived in a third floor apartment. She had always wanted chickens but the bath tub was the only place to put them at our current residence so, we decided to wait…
We bought a house in late December last year and as soon as she could she ordered 5 tiny chicks and immediately I was given the task of designing their home. I'm an VP at a local sign company - now for an executive I do a lot of hands on work, that's how it is in the small business world, as I'm sure all of you know. So I drew up the plans and let me wife make the necessary changes to benefit the birds.
We went and got the lumber and started. I took about 5 weeks of working on the weekends only to complete it. As soon as my wife chooses a color we will paint it up and trim it, I'll upload pics of that as soon as it's TOTALLY complete.
The framing is basically 4 pressure treated posts with exterior plywood for the exterior walls. The windows are framed with 2×4's (3.5" face against the exterior wall) there is rigid foam insulation on each wall, covered with a plastic vapor barrier. Then the 1/4" sanded plywood interior walls went up. The floor is CDX braced by (2) 2×4 cross beams. All of the assembly was done with deck screws (3.5", 2.5" and 1.625")
The roof has ice and water shield laid on the CDX and then traditionally shingled like a house.
I'd love to know what you guys think!
