Project Information

This is one of my lines of furniture I make usually with a limestone base because the stone is native and I can cut it myself with a skill saw. I decided to change the stone for limestone is soft and breaks. I choose petrified wood for its natural appeal, color , character and hardness. The only problem; I had to have a marble company cut the V groove into the stone for a perfect fit. Luckly I have a friend who owns a laser guided stone cutter. He cut it perfectly then I cut the Zebrawood to match the angle. I finished with conversion varnish and set the glass on top. The execution to hold the angle and how it is glued and clamped is a tradecraft secret . I have now changed the design to always have a piece of petrified wood enhancing the zebra wood . I entered this design into the Texas Furniture makers show. Awards are next Saturday. All this and Heaven too.

Very cool. How big is it? It looks to be about a 30×70 top if it is 30" high. How thick is the zebrawood support?

Joe , just got back from the awards show convergence didn't win anything but Tree of life won a Honorable mention. The awards were based on sixty percent was craftsmanship , twenty per cent design and twenty percent finish. It backwards but that's there criteria . What won was boxes and cabinets with a lot of mortise and tendon and perfect doors. Go online and look at the Texas Furniture makers show and you will see for yourself. All this and Heaven too.
