Project Information

Bookshelf / side board. Dimensions: 138×77 x 32 cm. The body is made of Lyptus (Eucalyptus grandis x E. urophylla), the base and drawer pulls are Goncalo alves (Astronium fraxinifolium), and the drawer sides are Tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera). Mortise-tenon, and dovetail joints throughout. Mitered corners have hidden splines. Finished with Danish oil and wax. Goncalo usually has much coarser pattern, but for this project I found a board with tight stripy pattern reminiscent of rosewood. Top and outer sides are made from the same 2.4 m boards that wrap around the perimeter to create visual continuity. The drawers sit in boxes, which can be moved around or turned to face opposite sides if the shelf is used as a room divider. The shelf is not attached to the base. Each compartment inside is a cube with 32 cm edges. Potentially the shelf could stand upright (requiring different base) and the drawer boxes would still fit.

That is very clever and quite a beautiful design! I like the choices of wood combinations and may in fact STEAL your design!

Well done!

Very NICE! and a lot better looking than a somewhat similar version from a large scandinavian "junk" retailer…

I really like this design, I got into woodworking because of this type of design, modern/contemporary stuff fits my style preference and so much of it is either cheaply made or very expensive…this shelf is very cool I really like how its customizable. I've been toying with the idea of something similar to store all my Lp's in
