Project Information

I started building this maybe 3 years ago (time flies) and finally finished it early this summer. Made from plans found in popular woodworking magazine, article by Glen D. Huey. As per the article I think this project was a great intro into building period furniture. Not too complicated as long as you take your time. I chose to build mine out of cherry for its beauty and cost.

The lowboy is dyed cherry with an antique mahogany water soluble dye. I was pretty scared after the first coat, however it evened out after two more. The final finish was a little darker than I had originally planned, though dying it rather than staining it really lets the grain show through in a very striking way. The rest is clear coated in poly, with only the top being buffed out to a high polish. I think if I had to do it again I would finish it with shellac, however there were already enough "firsts" in this project that I didn't need to add any more :D Thanks for looking
