Project Information

Hello all of you.
There is my latest project, a desk that my wife requested long ago, all made in solid red oak. The beauty of that thing is, that I made it from an old stair case, yes , recycled wood after a renovation in my neighbour's place.
I did resaw some pieces into 1/2 inch thickness, to have more wood and also it weighs less than a ton.that is for the back and one side (right) Since I did not have enough wood for all the sides I took the hand rail for one side and for the shelf beneath ( for printer's paper )
I also had to by some wood or the top. Finished in Danish oil with a tint of fruitwood, than using a water base poly, all joinery is done with a biscuit jointer, saves time and stays invisible.
I barely had time for the pictures, this thing is already full to the cover, and we 're both smilling since then. The main idea was taken on pinterest and adapted ( modified ) for my needs. and voila.
Feel free to comment, I value all that is said here for future improvements.
Like always play safe in your shop and smile it is still permited.

Very nice. Clearly says "Mission". The lattice end and knee hole shelf is very nice.

My only suggestion would have been to make the top overhang a little larger and round the front corners. I hate sharp corners, since I tend to carom off things, and sharp corners leave dents! LOL

Very good work. Does the file drawer fit Pend-a-flex?

Nice work Andrek. I like the story about the recycled oak. I did a lot of that when I upgraded all the cabinets in my house.

It looks nice with the printer, keyboard and the monitor on it

The hardware matches perfectly. Where did you buy it?

Thank you all for the nice words, from a group of woodworkers that raises the bar higher each time it is very rewarding, Madmark2 I did round over the front corners, but the picture does not show quite clearly as for the file , my wife gave me a sample on wich I based the drawers,8 1/2×11 it says on them Oxford, they hang on a sort of clip . Otherwise I'm not in the good department in that matter. For the overhang the next one will be larger you are right on that one. Thank you for the comments The hardware James, came from Lee Valley very good quality as usual.I feel good in this community for all sort of reasons, be happy all of you, play safe and smile while making saw dust. Looking forward to comment on your projects.
