Project Information

Here is a summer project from two years ago that I never posted. It is a skin on frame outrigger sailing canoe. The frame of the canoe is made with white oak ribs and larch for the gunwales, keelson, and chines. The seating platform and outriggers are douglas fir. The skin is nylon with varnish to waterproof it. A short video is at

Looks and sails like a little gem.
As a boat builder and as a sailor I think this is just plain cool.
Well done!

Great project.
Nice way of sailing, your video made it look like 'only fun'.
And I guess it is less work in the winter than a regular wooden ship…

Hi!

I love your boat! can you tell me some more about it? How wide is the main hull? how wide is the ama? How long is the Main Hull as well as the ama? How does it stand up to the stresses of sailing?

How does your boat look around the mast?

Any pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I built my own sof outrigger and have many issues with it twisting!

Very cool boat. If I had more room to store another boat, Iʻd like to build something like that too.
