Project Information

I am not sure if any of you know about BeyBlades… But it's a spinning top, that many Japanese boys are so into it, and so as my boy.
And this is a box to put away/display these spinning tops. The 1st drawer has 12 holes to hold beyblades, and 2nd one for accessories. The top can be used as a "Stadium" where you actually battle with somebody else…

Well, maybe the video here can explain what that is… (this is just a video from out there, it's not my son)

The hardest part was… I had to make this before my son's birthday after I got injured ,my Achilles' tendon rupture last Sunday. It was really stressful with my left foot cast to woodwork, but I needed to finish it before the day. Well, I made it somehow a day before his birthday, and I could see my son smiling with my project in his hand, what can I ask for more?

Thanks for stopping by.

Junji

Interesting - my brother and I had a cheap version of this game (all plastic) when we were about the age of the kid on the left (~35 yrs ago). It was called "Battling Tops". It's still at our parents' house, and with some replacement strings, it still plays just as well today for my brother's kids. Here's a video (not mine):

Edit: and, of course, nice work on the box. Our was just cheap cardboard.

I remember my little cousins playing this years ago. They would have loved to have this. This was huge here in Canada a few years back, maybe it still is. Not sure. Good Job!

Thank you everybody.
Yes, I know I need some rest now. And anyway, the summer is almost here now, and I just can't go out there and stay in my shop more 5 minutes in summer, it's tooooo hot. So I will be back when summer is gone.

I didn't know something like the video JJohnston showed us here more than 35 years ago!! Wow.

Well, the very origin of the toy is ベーゴマ, beigoma, and they say it's from Heian (794-1185) or Kamakura(1185-1333) period. So this is an old toy anyway! And it's simple, and fun. I don't like my kids to play with Video games without communicating with others, but these toys are very good from that point of view, too.

Great gift idea for your son Junji. His friends will probably be trying soon to get you to make one for them too. Very nicely done and practical.

I would like to make a box like this for my nephews son. Can you provide the dimensions and instructions on how you made the beyblade holders?
