Project Information

This outfeed table came from a plan in Popular Woodworking. It is made of oak, MDF, and hardboard and mounted to saw fence rail with 2×6 pine. The beauty of this plan is that the table is held up by way of a dovetailed support so it folds down out of the way-perfect for a small shop like mine. The table prevents use of the factory blade guard so I use a splitter made out of sheet metal that I patterned after the factory guard.

Tim,

My Steel City fence has a foot that rests on the steel angle iron rail on the back of the saw. How does this work with your outfeed table?

Jim J-I mentioned above that I had a deluxe fence(since discontinued)-it's a bies clone very similar to the industrial fence but I believe that one difference is that my fence doesn't have the foot for the back rail. At any rate, I don't know how it can work with the foot. The flip side of is that if you take the foot off, your rear rail might be wide enough to allow a direct bolt up which I could not do.

I just looked through the WWJ article. Looks like a gray industrial fence with no sign of a foot or any discussion of one. His fence rides on the table as mine does.

Looking around here, a found a similar table posted by fellow LJ Lenny. He mounted his on a powermatic and may be able to offer some advice on your question.

Thanks Tim. I don't have the plan so I don't know how wide the back rail needs to be. Mine is 1 1/2"-looks wider than yours. I am thinking about trying to split the long support (2×6 ?) that attaches to the rail so I can keep the blade guard/splitter.

Are you using lag bolts for the main hinge?

Think I will try to buy the back issue.

I quickly searched through the comments and I don't think I saw this link but I located a link if anyone would like to order the old issue or preview the article.

Can you send me or tell me where I can get the plans to make one like this?

Thank you!!
