Project Information

Fairly simple, but it is my first commisioned work. Is 8/4 hard maple on edge with a 3 1/2" backsplash. I started by gluing sets of 3 boards together and then jointing and planing these sets down to take care of any slipage that occured during glue up. I then glued these together, a couple sets at a time. I had a little bit of slippage even with cauls but it sanded out with a little effort. A widbelt drum sander would have been nice though.

It is 38" by 25" by 1.5"
Finished with 6 coats of tung oil

Thanks for looking

Very nicely done. okay, sorry. I hope I am not out of line and that you find this useful … I have a little trick you may like when it comes to slippage during glue up. Have you ever considerd using an abrasive like sand during your glue ups? I have tried sand and it works quite well. Just thought I would share. Salt works ok and is more readily available but sand works much better. Just a tip.

That is one beefy top. I like the natural look to wood. That just makes me want to touch it and feel the smoothness, and then build something, like a bird house or a triple decker sandwich.

A beautiful looking job Glenn. The jointing and planing looks to have come out really tight!

Nice work! Did you use bisquits? That seems to help in many ways. How did you attach the back (side) piece? What glue you use? Just call me mr. Curious!
God Bless,
