Project Information

Hi All,
I was commissioned by a bead artist to design and make a light box for a bead tapestry that featured a stained glass church window spilling light and color onto the snow outside.

I decided to use black walnut for the main part of the box and cherry accents on the inlay dovetails and on the tips of the tapestry rods.

I also accented the box on both sides of the light box with scroll sawn Gothic church windows, and I did all of the electrical work on the inside of the box.

I had a lot of fun doing this project and the client was very pleased.

Beautiful display, Ryan! Do the tapestry rods slide out to gain access to the light? Is the protrusion on the back for a french-cleat-type hanger? The cherry and walnut pair up nicely for a lovely subtle contrast. Thanks for sharing!

Great job, the dovetails and scroll work really blend well with the beaded tapestry. It looks like you created your own little Gothic Chapel. Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas.

Thanks Candy!
The rods do slide out but the access is through the back panel which is held in place with 4 double roller catches in each of the corners. And no, the protrusion is just a knob. I made it extra large at the clients request.

Thank you Mike!
Norway! I always enjoy watching live cameras on YouTube and a couple of my favorites are the live cams showing the Geiranger Fjord. I would love to see it in person.
