Project Information

Sometimes as woodworkers we tend to save scrapes and bits of information and ides. Well this project I build today came from an article in Popular Mechanic April 1984! I knew I had it somewhere, and I knew I needed to build one for the next on site project I have coming up in September. Sure I could have simply bought a workmate, but I think as a woodworker it shows your respect and skills foe woodworking if you could make one yourself. So I thought I would share this easy to build project. If anyone is interested in the plans and materials list I will be more than happy to email them to you. I know it may not look exactly as the photo shows, but I used what I had hanging around, but to I must assure you the jaws work just fine, and it does fold up as shown also. Like Tommy Mac often says , "just make it your own. " This is a great weekend project which includes woodworking and some metal working as well. Nothing special to buy or any need for specially tools, Outside of a tap or two.

Very nice. I always like looking at the old magazines for ideas.

Great idea. I found the plans online, Google Books has all the past issues of Popular Mechanics.

I made a collapsible workbench a few years ago, it wasn't supposed to collapse, it did, and ended up as scrap wood. Haste makes waste!

The one you built will not end up that way as it looks a lot sturdier!
Nice project and useful addition to a shop!

Whatever you do, don't scroll up the page a little bit and find a link to the plans, don't do that.
