Showcase cover image for Coffee Table - Ebonized Oak

Project Information

Just finished a coffee table. I found the base at a local thrift shop. It had an interesting profile and despite its dainty look weighed a good 30lbs (13.6k) . I paid $12.50 for the base (and existing top). I wanted to give ebonizing a go and picked up some 5/4 oak at the local lumber yard.

The top was pretty straightforward; glue up, plane, trim to final dimension.

Ebonizing was accomplished with India ink. That decision was based on a very comprehensive youtube video

Poly was used as the protective coat.
