My daughter wanted a coat tree for she and her sorority house suite mates to share. She wanted the tree itself and the pegs to be different colors. I laminated 2 2×4's together to make the post, after jointing oe edge of each so there would not be a seam between them caused by the round corners of the 2×4's. Then I made the cross pics for the bottom from 2×4's with a lap joint by dadoing each piece, and dadoed the top for the vertical post to fit into, after tapering them on the bandsaw. I cut apart two pieces of 1×10 clear pine to make the corner braces for the bottom, and secured them with glue and pocket screws. The pegs are 1" oak dowels drilled in on and angle on the drill press. 8 pegs up top, and 4 more below for purses or whatever. The pine is finished with 1 coat English Walnut, and one coat Red Mahogany stain, with 2 coats poly on the whole thing. She was very happy with how it turned out. Now I think I need to make one of these for my office! Thanks for looking.
