Let me share what I think is a neat idea. Drill a shallow hole in the bottom in the center and glue into the hole a thin rare earth magnet. The best size is 18 mm in diameter and 3 mm thick. Why - They will stack very easily.

Since your coasters are square (I usually make round ones), 2 magnets in each would keep them stacked and aligned.
