Project Information

My wife and I despise wire shelving and so we've made it a goal to replace all of it in our house, starting with our room closet.

It's made of 3/4 plywood and that might have not been the best choice. It assembles well, but is horrible to paint. Next closet will be done with a more paint-able MDF or MDO plywood. The extra expense will worth it.

Unfortunately there isn't a good spot to take pictures of the finished product, so please use your imagination.

Thanks for posting, I've been looking for ideas on doing this. We have wire shelving and there is a lot of wasted space. I also like the idea of mixing open shelves with drawers.

I've been debating on using the white Melamine covered MDF sold at the big orange or big blue, or using baltic birch plywood and staining it instead.

Great job on the closet. Your choice of plywood IMO is the way to go.

Looks real good. I agree about the wire shelving. It looks so good when you first get it but it gets old so fast. Also once you buy into a certain brand your stuck staying with then and you quickly realize it is just as expensive as ply or MDF.
