Project Information

Made this the other night. The box is made from oak, the lid is from a scrap of walnut. I found a log about three years ago. The log has been in the basement "drying". I cut a section about six inches long and then took a hatchet to it to get the rough shape for the box. Ran that through the joiner to get down to final dimension. I do not have a drill press yet so, boring the out center was an adventure in the vise with a 3/4 forstner bit and A LOT of chisel work. I got to use my brand new dovetail bit that was an anniversery present to myself from a trip to the mothership (Parkersburg Woodcraft). Still learning how to measure the lid to fit. Lots of trial and alot of error. The first lid was abit loose, the one you see is nice and snug.

Nice little container you got there. And I know what you mean about measuring sliding dovetail fit - my first project involving them created a good amount of firewood.

Very nice, and a good idea. Rather than buying a plastic cigarette box, I think I'll try your idea. I roll my own to save money. I get a couple of cartons out of a bag of tobacco and two boxes of Filtered Cigarette Tubes for about $16.00. Way better than $40 to $50 a carton.

Love it! I've been contemplating making something very similar for my iPod. I'll definitely try this one out!

I like the design except that it's used for cigarettes.

I can't believe no one mentioned that this is a family oriented site and children might be encouraged to take up that filthy habit. Me and R.J.Reynolds thank you, I can't keep them in business all by myself.

Ward, it holds 12. I buy them. Twelve is more than enough to get me through work, just reload when I get home.
