Project Information

We needed a chair for behind the lectern at church. We wanted the chair to be consistent with the style of the other furniture at the front of the church. This chair accomplished that objective. It has mortise and tenon joinery and I am particularly pleased with the bull nose at the front. The chair is made of basic red oak and the cross insert is African blackwood.

Scott, Inlays are easy. Just give them a try. All you need is a router with a guide bushing and a template to cut the groove into your work. With the cross use 2 separate templates, one for the vertical part and one for the horizontal part. Otherwise, you will mess up at the intersection. Cut insert wood to the right width on the table saw and cut it such that the depth is a little proud. Cut the pieces off at just a hair more than the right length and use a belt sander to round the ends to fit and glue in place. Then use your random orbital sander to make everything flush.
