I decided to make some wooden Christmas presents this year. I managed to get some 4×4 yellow pine pallet wood and made up 36 cube in a cube puzzle. Finished with two coats of boiled linseed oil. They were a great hit!
The most difficult part was seperating the inner cube from the outer. I used a Dremel tool with a cutoff blade and then a carving bit. Once the inner cube was free I touched up the inside of the outer cube with a Dremel drum sander bit.
The cubes measure 3" across. The big hole was made with a 2" forstner bit and the smaller hole was 1". The depth of cut was such to leave about 1/16" to 1/32" remaining. Once set same depth was used for all.
