Good to know. I see nice detail in the bust. You can get that with hard wood too, but it's a pain to carve it with hand tools. In my carving club, a guy brought in a piece of hard maple. I talked him out of trying to use hand tools to carve it.
Four months have passed since I started. I visted abroad for about one month. I work without pressure, not every day, and on the day I work two or three hours a day. So it took me about 120-150 hours.
I found out that Carob Is not too hard, so it is easy to carve and not too soft, so you may do details like wrinkles.

You are right. I use in my work some electric tools like Dremel and Arbortech blade for fast removal of wood or angle grinder with disc for wood. The main work is done by chisels, gauges, scalpels, etc.
Every time I start to think I'm getting pretty good at this hobby, I run across something like this that just floors me! What awesome work. I can't even aspire to rise to your level of craftsmanship. I love it!
