Project Information

Finished up another Chinese Elm bowl. 6 1/2 inches wide by 3 1/4 tall. 1 hard soak followed up with 5 light hand rubbed coats of wipe on polly. Buffed with tripoli, white diamond & carnauba. Wood was from a Craigslist find. I wish I had either gotten there earlier. It was a huge tree with a trunk diameter of about 2 1/2 to 3 feet. When I got there a women had a trailer full for "firewood" she said. The guys chain saw was dull but he made one last cut for me. He was going to sharpen his saw and come back the next day but work got in the way for me. I took it home, blocked it out and roughed out some bowls last fall. The wood is very hard, dense & heavy. Give it a try if you ever get the chance.

Very nice. Chinese Elm is somewhat rare. You were lucky to find this wood. It seems like Elms always have very interesting grain.
