Project Information
This is Brandon's wife, and I made these chairs.
The tallest chair (Nora's) was my second woodworking project and the smaller one (Beatrice's) is my third (but I got alot of experience helping with the kitchen set.) I cut Nora's chair entirely with the jigsaw, but I found it much easier to square things up with Beatrice's chair when I learned to use the table saw. I did all the rounding with a barrel sander-I wonder if a router would speed that process up. They are painted with acrylics and the lower green area is a sheer tinted glaze. I chose the glaze because it allows the grain to show through in such a pretty way. I am in the process of covering it all with polyacrylic. I like pure tongue oil alot too, but I dont know how well it would protect the paint. I want to do a third chair for my son and I may try finishing it with tongue oil. I like the shorter design too, because it could be a step stool for an older child.
It is hard to choose the next design for Elijah (son in picture)'s chair: trains, construction equipment, dinosaurs, or knight killing a dragon?
