Project Information

This was made from the scraps of the crotch bowl #82. It was cut parallel to the trunk and had bark on both sides but it would not stay on after it dried. The ends were square cut but I sanding a radius on to soften them. It is 7" long, 4 1/2" on the wide end and 2 1/2" high.
It is finished with the 3 stage buff of Tripoli White Diamond and Carnuba wax.

.............Cheers, Jim

Beautiful bowl Jim. You found the bowl hiding in the wood. Amazing job as usual my friend.

Looks good Jim. Nice shape and the grain swirls around beautifully. It is amazing that when looking at photo 3 it is a different shape. Looking at it from the face we see the nice long curved shape and know then it will sit really steady on its base as depicted in photo 3. Great project!!!! ( I think it could also hold ice cream)

Regards,

Cliff.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I just can't throw a pretty piece of wood in the scrap barrel!!

Hi Cliff, I'm surprised Roger did not suggest the ice cream yet??

Hi Joe. You make a good point- holding nuts, maybe chestnuts!! I'll give this one to Al's brother Carl who is also at the orchard. They will both have a bowl out of the same crotch of their chestnut tree!!

Great form and finish. I have been thinking along these lines for a rectangular block of walnut sitting on my floor for months. You inspire me to mount it and see what I can do.

Thanks Curt !! When you turn the rectangular block, stop the lathe to sand it!! They are fun to turn but deceiving when they are spinning because they look round!
