Project Information

I wanted to learn some new skills and remembered a friend of mine who asked me some time ago to make a display case for his butterfly knife collection.

I was practicing on a butterfly joint so I incorporated what I made before as an inlay and made handles to also hopefully look like butterflies. I also added corner joints not only to reinforce the carcass but also for aesthetics.

Carcass and drawer sides are Mahogany, drawer fronts and corner joints are yellow Narra, while handles, butterfly inlay, drawer guides are Padauk. Finished the project with BLO. I also added a velvet lining on the drawer bottom so that his collection will be enhanced and will protect them from scratches.

Problem is if he doesn't buy this, my wife will make it a jewelry box which I have to fill-up:(

Nice! That's interesting wood on the faces of the drawers. We don't have narra around here.

Nicely done. Well executed with several very original flourishes.
