Project Information
Recently had a request from my granddaughter to make a chess board for her boyfriend for Valentine's day. Apparently chess is big with some teenagers (they both play) because of some show they stream. So I said sure but only if she helps. I cut all pieces (not the chessmen) and showed her how to layout the glueing pattern. Had her start gluing up the squares and she was hooked. She also did the sanding, staining, and finishing. Hopefully I've started something new that she'll take further. Never miss an opportunity to influence your grand kids!
The base of the board was half inch cabinet grade plywood, the squares were half inch wenge and curly maple cut 1.5 inch square, and the outside border was white oak with a walnut trim
