Project Information

Last year I built my first cutting board for my wife. I used rough sawn cherry for the project. I made a quick adjustable router gig and made a juice groove. I used a beeswax and olive oil finish.

Beautiful cutting board. I love the cherry and great job with the jig for cutting the groove.

Good job, but is olive oil a good choice for a cutting board? Won't it go rancid?

Thats a good question. I have seen no negative affects from the mixture. Next time I oil it I might mix mineral oil and beeswax however.

Yes, I've always heard that vegetable-based oils aren't the best finish for cutting boards. The cherry looks great! It's my favorite wood.

P.S. Sorry for the double post. I couldn't figure out how to erase the first one!
