you did a nice job on the build but i just cant stomach taking beautiful cherry wood,one of my favorites and doing something so horrible as burning it.thats what the used to do to cheap aqaurium stands back in the 70's,it was bad then and is horrible now,but hey if the client wants to pay for it you do it.

I agree completely. I tried to talk the guy out of the burnt finish but that was something he was unwilling to go without.

I really like the sliding top, a lot. Seems to make the storage more accessible, even when there are things on top of the table. Is there any down-side you've noticed to using the glides instead of a hinge? Are they special glides (vs. run-of-the-mill drawer glides?)

The slides are the ball bearing type drawer slides and they are rated at a higher weight than others. The only down side is installing these in a table of this size is difficult.
