Project Information

After years of spending time in a box on the bench I finally got around to giving my Lie-Nielsens a proper home. The design is from a Popular Woodworking plan I believe.

The rack can stand on it's own on the bench, or can hang on the wall with the cleat. As soon as I finish my work bench, I'll be installing another cleat for it there.

This was a project that I could have slapped together much faster. However, I used it to practice my hand tool skills. All boards were hand planed to final thickness and surfaced that way as well. All end grain was done on a shooting board. All chamfers were done with a block plane and touched up with a chisel. No sandpaper touched this project. Ok, the rabbet for the cleat was cut on the table saw. I need to get a rabbet plane or shoulder plane still.

Each slot is custom sized for the chisel it holds. The primary wood is 1/2" Cherry and the spacers are just plain old Maple. It was finished with 2 coats of Bush Oil, and then 2 coats of Neutral Liberon Bison Wax.
