Project Information

I have had some folks who want a mid line jewelry box which is very nice and serviceable but not too expensive. I thought this one would fill that request. This box is cherry with maple trays and accents. It is 5" high X 11 1/2" wide X 8 1/2" deep. The quadrant hinges look really good but as always PITA to install. The lower section is divided into six sections and supports the upper two trays which are divided and have ring bars in one of them. The mirror in its frame is inset into the bottom of the top. Top panel is a sculptured and is loose fitted into the top frame. Dovetail keys make the mitered corners very strong. The upper keys are more shallow in order to not get into the mortise which the hinge stays must fall into. The box sets on black painted feet which are set back and it just seems to float. Questions and comments welcome. Thanks for looking.

A very well done project.

The mirrored top is a bonus feature to add even more appeal.

Some really nice features that you know I'll copy in my next boxes.
really like the bottom divider/supports, actually all of your features are top notch, well thought out and very well executed.
Pretty sure I'll never catch up with you and your talent

Sweet box Vernon. I agree totally, quadrant hinges are beautiful but I have problems with them too.

Very nice box. I like the dovetails and the quadrant hinges. The two contrasting woods made the trays stand out nicely. I have a question about the quadrant hinges, do you use a jig to install them and is it difficult to do? They look great, the whole box looks great. Thanks for inspiring

For just being "mid line" that is one fine looking jewelry box with your thoughtful design and excellent craftsmanship.

Initially I was wondering how you were able to make dovetail joints with the exposed maple but then I re-read your post and realized how it was done. The recessed feet are a nice touch as well. As the cherry darkens the contrast with the maple will stand out even more.

Great details Vernon! I'm drawn to the inset mirror, I've always tried to fully frame them with the lid, but with the mirror and a backer board that makes the top panel, it all gets a little thick, making the lid too thick. That inset mirror fixes that issue perfectly!.

I agree with the comments on the DT splines, nice touches.

Not just a beauty now, but when that box get's a suntan it's gonna be awesome. Congrats on your 3.

If I were to want to see anything different I would like to see it sans keys, to compare which was richer looking. My initial instinct is the keys complicate it just a bit. I know from doing them they do take a moment to do, so saving that work may make it a bigger seller with a slightly lower price, or a better profit maker.

Thanks for posting.
