Again, I get some scraps of wood from various places so I don't always know what wood species it is, I would like to know, so I can get more of this stuff. Please let me know if you can figure it out.

nice job what kinda jig did you make to put the grove in it

Greg, I did this whole thing on a lathe. So the outside edge (outside of the grove) is about a 1/16 thicker than than the main flat area of it.

Thanks for that. I looked at some wood database websites and their description of sapele matches up pretty much exactly with my experience with the wood. I think that is right.

That platter looks amazing! The wood has beautiful grains and the finish sets it off. Great work!
