Project Information
Cepheid is a wooden kinetic sculpture named after pulsating stars. Its curvy, ray-like forms slice and meld into each other as they spin and rock in a seemingly random motion. As Cepheid is set into motion by its spring and magnetic escapement mechanism, it creates a unique visual display of dancing shapes and mesmerizing patterns.
The sculpture is spring powered and uses a magnetic ratcheting escapement, which allow the it to get a "kick" from the spring at any orientation. On a full wind, this piece will run for about 1.5 hours.
