I use everything from a chainsaw to my pocket knife and everything in between. seriously I am primarily a power carver. One of my favorite shaping tools is a 4 1/2" makita grinder with a 36 grit pad. it's very agressive but I could brush your teeth with it without taking off the enamel. I also have carving chainsaws with a 12" bar and a dime size tip. Quite surgical in the right hands! My Dad owned a logging company when I was growing up so I dont ever remember not running a chainsaw.I dont use a chainsaw past the roughin stage. I find it a little to impersonel. I do use a dremel for detail work. Ive tried other fancier carving tools but always come back to the dremel.I dont like to use the wand on the dremel but hold it somewhat the same as I hold my carving knives.
I've seen lots of people selling just plain old stump blocks. with no thought put into them. some of them are 100.00 bucks and more. not worth a dime. at least you have put some heart into it = $. nice piece.
Really nice, as usual! My dream house would be a beautiful log cabin in the woods somewhere, and when I look at your work it fits right in with the beautiful rustic decore I would want in and around it
