Cedar Planter Box
I had some cedar off cuts that were given to me by a friend with a saw mill. The cedar came from a 50 year old telephone pole that had been pulled and replaced. I wanted to make planter boxes so I searched the site for other planter boxes that members had made. I found a number of boxes that I liked so I made a few tweaks and came up with a design. The sides (stiles, rails) are tongue and groove, the slats are ship lapped and rabbited at the top/bottom to fit into a groove in the rails. The mitered top is joined with biscuits, screwed and glued to box and plugged with ipe. The corner posts are cut from a cedar 2×4. The slats are 1/2" cedar and the rails, stiles and top are 3/4 cedar. The finish is Watco Danish Oil with a Spar topcoat.

Great looking planter boxes. A couple of those to flank my front door has long been one of my "someday" projects. Perhaps after admiring yours I'll finally get it done this winter when things slow down.
