My son has been wanting to build a light for a while now. We just finally had some left over cherry that we could use. He found a picture on the internet he wanted to use and did all the measurements. He was able to feed the planer, mark out all of the cuts, use the drill press, and help with the sanding.
He's a little too energetic to use the table saw and router so I helped him with those but otherwise it was all him. He very much did not want to put a finish on the cherry. I tried to talk him into it but that was a no-go. He wanted to use the light right then. It is completely disassemble-able so maybe in the future we will finish it. But he loves it now.
