Project Information

I made two of these captains beds for our twin daughters. That was years ago and the girls are in college now. The problem is neither girl will allow us to get rid of the beds so we are stuck storing them until "someday" when they want to use them with their own kids. Each bed has 14 drawers - 7 per side. Unfortunately, they were never located where the drawers on both sides of the bed could be used at the same time. But they always had plenty of storage growing up even using the drawers on only one side. With twins in the same room there just wasn't room. But I guess I'm glad that they think enough of "the bed that dad built" to want to hold on to them. But it will be nice to one day see them moved out of my house into the girls own homes. There is also storage in the top of the headboard with three flip-up compartments. And there is a storage area behind the pillow where books or magazines are stored. But for now, they are standing on their ends in a back bedroom still waiting for "someday." :)

Stunning work! My kids would love all of those places to put toys and things.

Looks good when the girls have children of there own they will need them.
You may need to use them for grandchildren.

Very nice, I can understand why they wouldn't let you get rid of them. So practical. I have been needing and planning to build something like this for a year or so now since my sons have run out of storage in their room. Dose this use a normal or thin box springs or does the mattress lay on plywood.
Thanks for posting!

Mike, the mattrice lays right on the plywood. The girls used them until they began to outgrow them in their early teens.
