Project Information

This was a blatant attempt to copy vipond33's way cool candy machine. The poplar prototype went well, then I broke out the walnut and zebrawood and things began to go awry! I decided to add more 'shelves' and increase their angle to 18 degrees (not realizing that this changed the dimensions). But it turned out OK after a lot of tweaking. Dimensions:15×7". 1" shop made walnut dowel. 1/4" plexiglass. Finished with shellac. The 'catch tray' is a routed out knot filled with epoxy leaving the 1/2" deep cup in the top. A larger diameter dowel would increase the capacity but 1" is the largest I can make. THANKS Gene for the inspiration!

Looks beautiful, and looks like it would be the center of attraction wherever you put it. Nicely done.

That looks awesome! I love how you incorperated the knot!!!

At present, I could use one that dispenses cold & flu medice, but candy will work in the future.

Very nice Andy…..I don't see no mistakes! Looks perfect. I do hope you are giving this away to some deserving youngster….....not the kind of thing you want sitting around the house…..:)

You did good on this Andy. I especially like the way you incorporated the knot. Thats thinking outside the candy dish.

Jeff- It's going to one of my favorite clients so she can spoil her grandkids. Thanks for all the kind words. Heads up to Rance and Jonathan: Next time I'm hiring one of you guys to do a Sketch Up thingy!

Andy, what I like about this is that it incorporates your sense of fun and sensitivity toward the wood you work with. It shows in your choice of woods and the use of the knot as a catch. Nice job on the photos and thanks for including the angle.

Would this work more efficiently if you added "grabbing pockets" on both sides of the spinning dowel or do you just rock it back and forth? Do the last few candies tend to just sit in place? If so, should the bottom of the bin be angled as well? This would be a fun gift for my daughter-in-law and your answers would save my making a prototype.

Andy, I really like your dispenser. You may have had a good wrestling match to get it just so but all I can see is a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for sharing. I have to pass on the candy. I think I have had enough over the holidays.

Jonathan- That looks like a good design improvement. My 5 year old granddaughter has NO trouble getting the last one! But then she's exceptionally smart (must take after her granny)!
