Project Information

Thanks fellow Lumberjocks Jim http://lumberjocks.com/projects/72960 and Dick http://lumberjocks.com/projects/55370 for their inspiration to make a nice version of this trick.(instead of just a nail nailed into a block of wood)
I made mine out of pine. I got good practice with the skew chisel, i kept getting really close to being finished and then getting a "catch" and having to turn it down some more, happened 3 or 4 times. It was good practice and i only had to start sanding with 150 grit. I used 2 1/2" nails because i was out of 3 1/2" nails, but it is easier to balance them with bigger nails.

It is very annoying trying to figure it out the first time but cheating on it landed me a job one time. 6 of us were brought in for a group interview and asked if we could work together to balance them and told we could use what was there; the interviewer however was called out early just as he finished explaining and left his folder under the block of wood. I tossed the folder on top and all the nails on that. Interviewer asked who did it when he walked back in, everyone pointed at me as I was claiming credit. Only one who got a job for thinking outside the box for an unorthodox solution.

Now this would be fun at some party with everyone slightly inebriated. ONe could make money on betting with such folks. LOL
