Project Information

Some friends had solid oak cabinets that were quite trendy in the mid '70's.
They didn't want to just tear out perfectly good cabinets, but hoped we could update them.
We found a product that has a basic 4 step process for refinishing.
1. Clean and prep.
2. Apply a basecoat.
3. Apply a glaze to bring out the graining.
4. Apply a sealer for durability.

The hinges and knobs were also replaced and a new tile backsplash was installed.

One of the great things that you can see is the kitchen was still able to be used during the transformation.

Each step took about a day and you can see what a difference it made.

Very nice - What was the product if you don't mind me asking? I did a reface job on the side last year for a freind, and vowed then and there to NEVER do it again. I hated working with the veneer and contact cement. Had I known about this, I may have gone this route instead. Nice job!

Very nice. All that's missing is the expensive granite countertops. :)
Quite the transformation from the dark kitchen.

Thanks for the kind words. The product was Rustoleum Cabinet Transformation. Going in I was a bit skeptical, but you can see that it exceeded expectations.

I used the same product in the rehab of my kitchen. Absolutely loved the final product - yours looks great too. I used the antique red which looks good with my wife's rustic country decorating style. beats the heck out of sanding and refinishing. Wish I would have taken good before and after pics like you did. I'll see if I can find something and post later.
