Oh man Troy, that really looks nice. Not to big not to small. I have a pile of maple waiting to be made into kitchen table/ butcher block. I think I'm going to copy yours.
I might not use casters and I am thinking about the lower shelf being made from cross hatch strips to look like the hatches on the old sailing ships, not sure what its called.

Thx Dave. That thing is heavy, btw; about 130 lbs. Depending on how much sun it gets by the window, it needs mineral oil regularly. In the middle of summer, it nearly soaks through as fast as I can pore and spread. The left side handle has rare earth magnets for knives, wife doesn't use it though. Shelf certainly leaves itself open to all kinds of design ideas. Hope you make one.

Troy I like this. I've been talking to my wife about a butcher block style cabinet top, but now you given me an even better idea. Hope you don't me copying you somewhat. Great job.
