Project Information

This was my first large project, bunk beds for a couple of my grand daughters This had a large learning curve for me. I understood how to construct it but to execute was the challenge. Started 09/11 and finished 04/12, (had lots of distractions and interruptions along the way) wish I would have logged my time so I would know how many hours it took to build. It is constructed of alder, hardware was from Rockler. Overall I am pleased with the completed project.

Paul - I used 3/8"x2" steel pins (from Rockler) in each post. Sorry no construction photos.

Just 2".That means 1" into each half. What if the kids start kicking from the bottom? Might want to lock that together some how.
Good Luck

Very nice and from the looks on their face I would say that they are a hit with the girls. Cheers

Hey I recognize that. I see that you improved on my design. Very well I might add. In hindsight I too would of made the ladder angle out like you did. The difference is that to connect the two beds together I used two 1/2" x 2" bolts slightly offset 1/8" from center line to create tension for each leg. The tension works great as my kids have put them through the jump test. And at my wife's request i replaced the short side rail with one that extends from the end of the bed to the ladder as you have done. Very good indeed.
