"bump" box

Thank you to Andy…

I have given Andy thanks many times over. I don't think I need to with every project I do. I learned a lot from him and his blogs, but at this point I am just taking a idea he shared with us and doing my own thing with it. I hope this was his intention when he shared how he made his boxes. Do I also have to thank the Romans every time I use a arch.

I don't enjoy snarky comments on something I have worked so hard on. Maybe you should keep them to yourself.

I feel like I am becoming a elf. Santa has been cracking the whip around here. I must say that I think I am more excited than the kids are this year. LOL

It looks my box has a new name. I wonder if I can still change it.

The laminated medallion is a very cool addition to a beautiful project. She will treasure this forever!

Well I officially changed the name. This is now the "bump" box. I didn't really like flame anyway, I just couldn't think of anything clever. LOL

Don, The sculpting was done with a right angle grinder, then I used a orbital sander. Finally a bit of hand sanding. Yea, I guess it did take a lot of sanding. Before I got my bosch orbital sander with variable speed I did it all by hand. That took days. It is a lot faster now.

Thanks gfadvm, I plan to use more lamination next year. I love how it looks as you carve through the layers.

Very nicely done Joey, I love that color and your own particular style. Paduak is one of my favorite woods both for color and its wonderful smell.Thumbs up!

I appreciate what Abie was trying to do, that was very kind of him to get me some recognition, though not necessary. I know that you have already given me many thanks in the past and acknowledged the small influence I may have had on some of your boxes, but it was never my intention to blow my horn or have it blown for me. I really did just want to share with everyone the fun of breaking out of the standard box mold and let the grinder give them some freedom. haha
I did not invent the box or shaping wood, I simply combined elements in a way I had personally never seen before.
Lets all enjoy ourselves here, this is a great site where we can all share freely.
I am very happy to see how many versions of my boxes are on this site and the impact the style has had on other projects and I want to thank both of you and everyone else here that has supported me.

Thanks Andy, I am glad that you understand. I have the utmost respect for you and your work. I would never deny the things I learned from your blog. Nor would I imply that this was originally my idea. The idea began with you, and has grown through me, just as it has grown through each of the woodworkers who have used your teachings.

I will continue to work with wood, I will use what I have learned from others and I will continue to share what I learn with others. I have already followed your footsteps and began making my own blogs about how I do things. The wealth of knowledge is so great on this website that I feel I learned way more than I shared. And I think that is as it should be.

I hope to see more of your work soon and hope that you have chance to see mine.

And to Abie,

I would like to apologize for my snarky comments. I was offended by you statement and reacted poorly. I realize now, that if you have not followed my work, then you would not know that I have acknowledged Andy very many times. My boxes are not meant to be copies of Andy's, the are a evolution of an idea. Of a school of thought if you will. I ask you to go back and look at my projects and blogs and see this for yourself.

And finally to everyone who has been witness to this disagreement, I give my humblest apologies for my lack of restraint and harsh retort. I acted poorly and there is no excuse for it. I will work hard to make sure I am not involved in a exchange like this again.
