Just done the conversion rate - 2400 euro. I would have thought that was about right for this type of job. It looks well made and fitted, did you use push to open hardware?

I did not use push type hardware, the doors were all overlay. We had decided that they would pick up the hardware
and they had not done so by the time I took the pictures. I latter went back and installed Brass pulls.
We have remained good friends even through this incident and up to present.

Beautiful work! The gun cabinet, as I have repeatedly said before, offers absolutely no security. A heavy steel locker or safe is the only way to store firearms. Also, firearms and ammunition are to be securely stored separately.
I was in California last week on vacation. I was in a sporting goods store. The state has provisions for criminal prosecution if your firearms are not properly secured and used to commit a crime. A bit too harsh, IMHO, but it makes you think.

I too have to comment on the security. I absolutly love the look of displayed guns. When I was a kid I built a 2-gun rack to display my fathers over/under and side-by-side shot guns. Unfortunatley now that I am older I realize the importance of securing your guns versus displaying them. With that said I still want to comment that your cabinets are very nice looking and I am happy to hear that you remained friends even throught the money misunderstanding.

I understand your security issues, with that said I do not agree with them. I do believe if their are children in the house
ammo needs to be kept separately from the Guns. I believe in our right to bare arms as well as collect them as a hobby. A person that has collected guns and likes to show them off does not want them in a gun safe. I do not want to get in a squabble about this and believe I am entitled to my opinion as well.

The back is made of 3/8" T & G Red Oak paneling.

I agree with you and your opinion, but anytime firearms are displayed there is the possibility of that information reaching the wrong people. Someone sees your collection and comments on it to others. Pretty soon word is out and the information is given to or heard by the wrong people. I think this is what happened to our twelve firearms- the wrong people heard about them and had easy access to them. Three of those firearms were my grandfather's and were irreplaceable. Children are not the issue here. I am talking about adults that steal for a living or the fun of it.
No one but a couple of family members have seen my entire collection. They are locked in a heavy steel locker that is bolted to the wall with loooong lag bolts. Only four people know the location of the key.

I realize that our society has made it so we have to put locks on everything however I could worry about someone
robbing my shop. At this point in my life I don't know if I could recover from that. We can however use the brains God gave us, and lock up irreplaceable's if we go away for the weekend, or go on vacation. I don't mean to stick are heads in the sand and then be shocked if something is stolen from us. I myself could not imagine being a gun collector and not having them displayed. Well that is enough of this topic I really was just showing a project that I thought had turned out very well.

I was gone from home for six hours.
I would make this suggestion to all firearms collectors/owner. Write down a complete description of the firearm- manufacturer, model, serial number, caliber or gauge, engraving, distinguishing marks/scratches/dings, and take pictures. Transfer the pictures and descriptions to a CD and keep a copy in a secure place and give one copy to your insurance agent. FYI, if you have a firearm that is stolen, is old and has no serial number, you cannot get it back under federal laws. I have a friend who is a licensed gunsmith and tried to buy an old gun that was rare; gun was recovered from a theft ring. He was told the gun could not be sold or transferred and would be destroyed. He even offered to apply to the BATFE for a serial number. They wouldn't do it.
